The O'Reilly Residence
Andrea owns and oversees The O’Reilly Residence, a 300 sq ft studio located in the town of Hailey in the Wood River Valley—two-and-a-half hours east of Boise and ten miles south of Sun Valley. The residence is a detached unit with its own parking space and entrance. It contains a full bath and an efficiency kitchen with a small refrigerator and microwave. All needs and amenities are within walking distance—groceries, cafe, restaurants, theatre and library.
Hailey is the birthplace of Ezra Pound, and just north is Ketchum, home of Ernest Hemingway. Both towns support the arts with world-class plays, dance, music and literature. Sun Valley hosts an outdoor symphony as well as the Sun Valley Writers Conference each summer. The Community Library is a continual source of inspiration and education through lectures and visiting artists.
A bike/walking path connects all three towns in the Valley and is available for walking all year, as well as biking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. The trail is three blocks from the residence. Hailey is surrounded by open space and mountains, rich with hiking trails, ponds and alpine lakes. If you come seeking solace and quietude, your wish will be granted. The residence is in a quiet neighborhood. Your writing will be inspired and undisturbed.
The O'Reilly Residence is currently part of the Rainier Writing Workshop through Pacific Lutheran University. Second year students can choose a residency as part of their Outside Experience, a requirement of the program. The studio has welcomed writers from California, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Washington.
Service to and from the Friedman Airport in Hailey is provided. A car would be desirable, but there is bus service up and down the Valley. A bus stop is a few blocks from the residence. The fee is available upon request.
